Zenith was contracted by Canada-based operator Central European Petroleum to plan and manage the drilling of their first offshore well. The well was an appraisal of the Wolin concession, offshore Poland. The project presented several challenges, including the proximity to a highly sensitive environment, shallow water depth, and the risk of high-pressure gas and high H2S.

Objectives
- Full well management, planning, contracting, regulatory permitting, operations management and wrap-up for the appraisal well
Method
- Allocated experienced Zenith well engineering team with remote location experience
- Utilised Zenith HSEQ & Well Management System to deliver project
- Performed detailed market survey and analysis of available suitable drilling units
Challenges
- First well in area in over 40 years
- Well location 6km from shore, water depth approx. 9.5m with UXO complexity
- New, complex regulatory regime to work under and zero discharge
- Rig contracting – limited units suitable for complex mob and water depth
- Fractured Carbonate Reservoir, overpressure gas, high H2S and CO2 – mud and cement design complexities
- No local oil and gas infrastructure
Outcome
- Executed comprehensive contracting process, contracted 40+ service and product lines
- Sourced and contracted a suitable Jack-Up rig for a challenging location in a highly competitive rig market
- Established and managed a fully operational supply base at a local port
- Mobilised rig to location seamlessly, following detailed rig move planning
- Well drilled, logged and suspended, meeting all data acquisition requirements and zero environmental incidents
