North-sea Rig less Abandonment Campaign

With Antrim looking to exit the North Sea, as part of its licence obligations, legacy suspended E&A wells were required to be permanently abandoned. Zenith were contracted to provide P&A project management and were responsible for planning, permitting and managing the execution of the P&A operations.

Objectives

  • Permanently abandon 4 suspended wells in the Central North Sea.

Method

  • Reviewed Well Status.
  • Defined P&A strategy and outlined rigless options
  • Prepared and submitted Regulatory and Environmental Permits
  • Developed P&A Programmes
  • Placement of P&A Contractor contract
  • Developed plan for setting deep set cement plug
  • Management of P&A Operations
  • Submitted post P&A Reports


Challenges

  • Identifying a suitable vessel
  • Limited timeframe to plan prior to Operations
  • Setting cement plugs at 2500ft with SWAT tool
  • Abandoning 1 legacy well with limited well data

Outcomes

  • All 4 wells P&A within AFE
  • Over 43,000 man hours with zero accidents, incidents or environmental spills
  • Seabed cleared of all well equipment
  • License holder obligations met
