Zenith Energy Awarded Significant Well Engineering Contract for EnergyPathways' MESH Project

Zenith Energy, one of the UK’s leading independent well engineering and project management companies with offices in Aberdeen, Perth Australia, Dakar Senegal, and Abu Dhabi, announces that it has been awarded a significant new contract by EnergyPathways plc to support its flagship MESH (Marram Energy Storage Hub) development.

The contract will see Aberdeen-based Zenith Energy serve as well engineering partner for EnergyPathways subsidiary EnergyPathways Irish Sea Limited (EPISL). Under the agreement, Zenith will provide a comprehensive suite of services, including drilling and completion design, permit planning and submission, tendering and procurement of long lead materials, preparation of rig tender, rig intake and site arrival, well examination support, and well execution.

This latest engagement marks a continuation of the successful collaboration between the two companies during the pre-FEED stage of the MESH project.

MESH is expected to be the UK’s largest integrated energy storage facility, combining natural gas, compressed air, and hydrogen storage, with the capability to store up to 20 TWh of energy. The fully electrified, zero-emissions facility will be powered by renewable wind farms in the East Irish Sea region and play a key role in achieving the UK Government’s 2030 Clean Power targets. The project aims to deliver reliable, flexible, and low-carbon energy to meet the needs of a net-zero future.

Derek Grimmer, Chief Operating Officer at EnergyPathways, says, “EnergyPathways is pleased to continue its relationship with Zenith as its Well Engineering partner for our MESH development. Zenith have already demonstrated their ability to collaborate and work closely with the Company on the pre-FEED phase of the project, coupled with their vast experience and capability making them the ideal partner for the MESH project.

Not only can they support the drilling and development aspects of the MESH gas storage project, they also have the expertise to support well operations for Long Duration Energy Storage and Hydrogen Storage, ensuring they can support us through the full integration of our MESH project. Our outsourced contractor model ensures we can align ourselves with high-quality service providers while remaining lean and managing our costs through the FEED stage. We are very pleased to be playing our part in supporting a just transition for the UK’s talented offshore workforce.

Chris Collie, Operations Director at Zenith Energy, adds, “We are delighted to have been selected by EnergyPathways as their well engineering partner of choice for this exciting and strategically important project. We look forward to contributing to the successful delivery of this development, which supports the UK’s transition to Net Zero and strengthens domestic energy security through low-carbon solutions. This partnership represents a significant milestone for Zenith Energy as we continue our commitment to support the UK’s energy transition.”

Martin Booth, Managing Director of Zenith Energy, concludes, “We are proud to be supporting EnergyPathways on a project that aligns so clearly with our own values and vision for the future of energy. MESH is not only a vital contribution to the UK’s energy resilience but also a clear demonstration of how innovation, sustainability, and collaboration can drive meaningful progress. This contract is a testament to the strength of our team and our continued growth in the energy transition space.”
