Geological research project part of Jurassic Earth System and Timescale (JET), an international programme of research on the functioning of the Earth during the Early Jurassic period. The Operator, University of Exeter, required a geological borehole and core through Jurassic and Triassic period for detailed analysis. This was delivered via a well drilled in the West Midlands, onshore UK, supervised by Zenith Energy.

Objectives
- Obtain geological core through Jurassic and Triassic period
- Perform extensive logging program at well TD
Method
- Reviewed latest core technology for non-standard well operation
- Shore-based drilling management provided to ensure successful operation and programme implementation
- Zenith land specialist deployed to rig site to manage operation
- Worked closely with non oil and gas client to navigate through planning and operational challenges
Challenges
- Non-oil and gas project and stakeholders
- Long horizontal section at shallow TVD
- Objective of 850m continuous core
- Extensive geophysical logging programme
- Offset well data from the 1960s & 70s
Outcome
- Successfully planned and supervised continuous coring operation
- Over 600m cored
- Performed logging at well TD
- Provided sufficient core data to permit further analysis as part of international research programme
